CX-919 II Android TV Stick

Nowadays, Smart TV has become a popular range of TVs. Like Smartphones, they are TVs which have built in OSes, allowing you to install apps and surf net on your TV. Now before you decide to go for the best range of Smart TVs out there, there are some downsides of getting a Smart TV.

First of all, they are much more expensive than normal TVs. And secondly, unless you go for one of those outrageously overpriced models, their processors are usually slow and laggy. Some of those Smart TVs aren't even using the widely loved Android OS. Instead, they choose to introduce you to their own shitty OS that hardly supports anything other than the basic web surfing functions.

Android TV Sticks are basically HDMI dongles that transform a normal TV to a Smart TV. If you're one of those looking for a good but cheap Smart TV, why not just get a cheap LED TV and plug in one of these TV sticks? With less than a hundred bucks you're able to get a TV stick with the latest Android OS version and processors that are even comparable with the latest smartphones.

The model which I got recently, the CX-919 II, comes with a Quadcore processor, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM. Like most Android TV Sticks, it supports up to 1080p resolution, comes with a OTG USB port for connecting to your USB devices and a MicroSD slot that supports up to 32GB.

The thing I like about this model is it's Dual Wifi Antenna. As I'm using it for my TV in my bedroom, and my router is in my study room, a stronger Wifi Antenna will be a better choice over other models.

If you think 1 OTG USB slot is not enough for your USB devices, not to worry. Just get one of those USB hubs and plug it in. It should be able to support any normal USB hubs out there. You can then proceed to plug in your Thumbdrives, external harddisks, or even a wireless receiver for Android remote control.

Yes, you need a remote control for your Android TV aka Google TV. If you try searching for Android TV sticks at Aliexpress, some of the sellers usually sell TV sticks and remote controls as a bundle purchase. One of those which I bought is called an Air Mouse Keyboard, which has a QWERTY keyboard and a Left/Right mouse button on it.

With the Left/Right mouse button, instead of navigating the screen like a mouse, you actually navigate it like a Wii Remote, which is, facing the remote at the screen and control the mouse cursor by moving the remote around.

With an Android OS on your TV, you could do a lot of things like how you use your smartphones. And thanks to various video player apps available that supports almost any video codec, plus the powerful processor on the android stick, you can enjoy watching 1080p videos smoothly on your TV that are copied into your thumbdrive or external harddisk.

Another good thing about getting one of these Android Sticks is that, unlike Smart TVs, they can be changed regularly and cheaply. Few years down the road, if you feel that your Android Stick is no longer performing in par with future technology standards, you can easily swap the TV with a new android stick of the latest OS version and processor. Right now, a decent Android stick costs only about USD $60 at Aliexpress. Who knows, maybe in the future they may cost even lesser?
